Biography:

Rapidly gaining recognition as an emerging conductor in Australia, Zachary Miezio is an award-winning conductor and composer, who is deeply passionate about sharing the joys of classical and contemporary orchestral music with diverse audiences. With the emphasis on presenting a strong and compelling musical narrative to an array of audiences.

Graduating from the Queensland Conservatorium with a bachelor’s in composition, Zachary has subsequently completed a Masters of Conducting and continues to work professionally in Australia and New Zealand as a conductor and composer.

Zachary currently serves as Assistant Conductor for the Queensland Youth Orchestra and Guest Conductor for the Brisbane Concert Orchestra. In 2025, he will continue his role as Music Director of Orchestra Concertina while furthering his collaborations with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and Brisbane Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, Zachary frequently works as Assistant Conductor with the Queensland Conservatorium’s Wind Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra and has participated in workshops with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra.

Winning the 2022 Allan Lane Composition Award, Zachary continues to work as an independent and resident composer across multiple domains. As a 2023 resident composer at Church Street Studios, (Australia's premier autonomous film composer studio), his creative influence has extended to the realm of cinema now with a burgeoning filmography, Zachary's prowess has earned him consecutive 'Most Outstanding Soundtrack' awards from the Queensland College of Art in both 2021 and 2022. 

Notable commissions include working with, Queensland Youth Orchestra, Screen Queensland, Griffith Film School, Queensland College of Art, Kolperi Outback Filmmaking, Riverside Guitar Ensemble, and Brisbane-based opera company Voxalis. Zachary has premiered works at the Adelaide Guitar Festival (2022), Australian Digital Concert Hall (2022), and the 2023 Brisbane Festival. And in 2025 will premiere works with Brisbane Concert Orchestra, and Orchestra Concertina. In addition to his extensive film score portfolio. Zachary is also a prolific theatre and stage composer. Working with directors such as former associate director at the Gate Theatre in London, Kate Wild, and Artistic Director of Matrix Theatre, Michael Futcher. Composing music for the 2024 Astrid Theatre production of ‘Love Lies Bleeding’.

 

Previous Works:

  • Voxalis is an emerging Brisbane based opera company that performs prolifically throughout the year. Voxalis has commissioned Zachary to compose three operatic styled pieces inspired by Shakespeare’s play ‘As you Like it’ for various concerts throughout the year.

  • Kolperi Skies is a feature animation film produced by the Australian Outback Film Festival and Queensland College of Art. Zachary’s score has received high praise and will be premiered throughout the year at several Australian and international festivals

  • In this historic romantic thriller, directed by Dom Vaughey. Zachary’s score mixes the sounds of romantic and classical genres. With a strong choral influence, his score uniquely merges classical and modern compositional techniques.

  • In the Queensland Conservatorium’s most popular concert. Zachary will premiere his score for ‘Kolperi Skies’ at a sold out show at the Queensland Conservatorium.

  • Queensland Youth Orchestra is a leading organization of young musicians performing in a variety of ensembles from many skill levels. Zachary was commissioned in 2022 to create three works for multiple ensembles. Including the jazz big band, string orchestra, and symphony orchestra

  • Directed by Jess Fisher. This feature film is set in a dystopian science fiction world. Zachary has scored and mixed the score for the finalised 2023 feature film

  • Directed by Morgan Packett. Zachary wrote the music for the true crime thriller. The score for ‘Wilful Murder’ won the 2022 ‘Most Outstanding Music award’ by the Queensland College of Art.

  • Zachary worked with Brisbane based composer Emma Percival on commission for The Riverside Guitar Ensemble. Premiered at the Adelaide Guitar Festival, their work received acclaim with classical guitarists around Australia.

  • Directed by Shuban Shaneil. Black Tie Optional is a romantic feature film of which the score mixed orchestral and electrical elements into the soundtrack which won the 2021 ‘Most Outstanding Music award’ by the Queensland College of Art.
